pyochungsa Temple (표충사)

Originally constructed in 654 AD in the nearby town of Miryang, Pyochungsa Temple moved to its present remote location in 857. The large temple has an interesting history as its monks heeded the call to arms during the Imjin War, providing valiant fighting men in battles stretching from Pyeongyang to Suncheon and Ulsan. Today, nestled in a remote part of Gyeongsang Province you can’t get to by accident, Pyonchungsa is a participating member of the temple-stay program. The scenery surrounding the ancient site is nothing short of stunning and the drive there unforgettable. If you’re in the area it’s definitely worth a visit!
